Have you noticed local pollution/litter issues and are trying to figure out who to call? Below is a list of who to call in Fairfax County depending on the specific problem. An additional note: your county district supervisor is your ally. Simply put your address into this site to find out who your supervisor is and how to contact them! When contacting these various agencies, we recommend you add your supervisor’s office to the conversation as well. This is why they were elected – help them make your community better!

Littered Communities
We specialize in this work, so please contact us at 571-338-6710 or at cfc@cleanfairfax.org. We also recommend documenting the issue by sending an email to your district supervisor, preferably with photos! Please CC us on said email so we can respond.

Littered Roadways
VDOT is responsible for litter on most Virginia roadways. If you see litter issues on or near roads, you can Report a Problem, or call 1-800-FOR-ROAD. You can also participate in VDOT’s Adopt-A-Highway program.

Illicit Discharge / Illegal Dumping
If you come across a piece of land with large abandoned objects on it, you should contact the Department of Code Compliance at 703-324-1300. If you see someone dumping in real time, you can call 911! If you come across a stream that has an unnatural color or odor, immediately call the Stormwater Planning Division at 703-324-5500.

Abandoned Vehicles

For inoperable vehicles located on private property (in someone’s yard), please contact the Fairfax County Police Department’s Impound Office by filling out this online form. If you see an abandoned or unregistered vehicle on a public street, contact Parking Enforcement at 703-691-2131 or email the location and description to: FCPDparkingenforcement@fairfaxcounty.gov. If the inoperable vehicle is located on a commercial property or property governed by an HOA, you will need to contact the appropriate Property Management personnel.

Construction Erosion
If you observe a construction site that seems to have malfunctioning erosion and sedimentation controls, you can submit your concern online via the Site Construction Hotline Submission Form or call 703-324-7470, TTY 711.

Homelessness
If you come across a homeless encampment in your community, contact the county’s Office To End and Prevent Homelessness at 703-324-9492.
