This year, we’re reminding folks that It’s Always Earth Day.

Welcome to Earth Month+ 2026, the hub for all the events and resources we’re sharing – because every day is Earth Day.
It’s Always Earth Day
Join us on Earth Day (April 22, 2026), throughout the month of April, and every day of the year to remember that what we do our environment, we do to ourselves. When we trash our neighborhoods and clog our waterways with pollution, it comes back to harm us in the form of microplastics, dirty air, tainted water, an unhealthy food system, and numerous health implications for people and wildlife. Not to mention the economic costs of cleanup and preventable health care issues.
So what is to be done? We need action at all levels, but it’s important to understand that the economic and political system in its current form is stacked against change. We are not going to recycle our way out of this problem.
Use your voice and vote:
- Tell your elected officials to support policies that reduce pollution at the source (front end solutions)
- Vote for candidates who stand up for a healthy community and a clean environment
- Vote with your pocketbook by buying less, choosing reusable and natural products
- Make small changes in your life: commit to reusable shopping bags, water bottles, coffee mugs, straws, and to-go containers
- Rethink the resources you use in your life, from energy to transportation to clothing to material goods. Where could you use less, reuse, repurpose, repair, share, and swap?
- Responsibly recycle materials only when they cannot be used any further. Focus on mechanically recyclable materials like paper, cardboard, metal, and glass.
- Act locally by organizing cleanups, setting up a community swap, sharing tools with neighbors, learning how to mend and remake clothes
We cannot individually change the system, but we can all contribute to making positive impacts at whatever level is possible.
Clean Fairfax is not hosting our annual Earth Daze celebration this year, but we are supporting cleanups, making presentations, and attending community events across Fairfax County. Check out the 2026 Earth Month+ calendar below. We hope you’ll join the fun and pitch in to Rethink the 3 Rs: Rethink, Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repair, Repurpose, Rot, and THEN Recycle – not just on Earth Day, and not only during Earth Month, but whenever you have the opportunity!
